Umbilicoplasty or belly button reshaping is getting very popular. As we get older the umbilicus changes shapes but essentially what happens is looseness of the skin around the bellybutton.
As the belly button sags it doesn’t look as tight as it used to. Reshaping of the belly button is often done alongside surgery but it can also be done as an isolated procedure.
We do this under local anesthetic and cut around the belly button to give this a new shape. The issue around the bellybutton is that we need to leave the scar as small as possible.
I believe that isolated belly button repair is better to do with less side effects. There is a possibility that the belly button can get a scar so we need to ensure that the patient is aware of the pros and cons to ensure the patient gets a much better outcome.
